Demand for phone numbers was high in 2011
The amount of numbering resources allocated in 2011 to communications operators was on the rise and exceeded 932,700 numbers; this was due to an increased demand for phone numbers to be used for mobile and landline services, for premium-rate numbers and for location-independent numbers, the communications regulatory agency ANRCETI said in a press release.
The demand from mobile operators rose from 300,000 numbers in 2010 to 850,000 in 2011. Orange Moldova was allocated 500,000 numbers (ranges 605xxxxx to 609xxxxx), Moldcell 200,000 (ranges 785xxxxx to 787xxxxx) and Moldtelecom's Unite brand 150,000 (ranges 674xxxxx to 675xxxxx).
The numbers allocated to landline operators rose from 57,000 in 2010 to 131,500 in 2011. Moldtelecom was allocated 34,100 numbers and alternative landline operators received 97,400 numbers.
Since August 2011, ANRCETI has allocated the first ever 17,000 location-independent numbers (ranges 30xxxxxx and 38xxxxxx) to be used for VoIP (Voice over IP) services.
In 2011, ANRCETI also allocated 25,500 premium-rate numbers and 200 freephone numbers. According to the National Numbering Plan (PNN), the former type of numbers (ranges 0900xxxxx, 0905xxxxx and 0906xxxxx) are reserved for entertainment, games, tele-voting, marketing or other similar services, and the latter type (the range 0800xxxxx) for information and counseling services.
