Defoil could lose licenses on petroleum market
The petroleum company Defoil SRL could see its licenses on the Moldovan revoked because of schemes involving intermediaries which the National Energy Regulatory Agency believes are responsible for price inflation.
The Agency's director Victor Parlicov told a Tuesday's public meeting an audit revealed that Defoil paid an intermediary an overcharge of 942,000 lei over the years 2010-2012.
The audit revealed other irregularities as well: the company made high-risk payments to its employees and engaged in instances of retail trade, for which it doesn't have a license.
The Agency ordered the company to present an action plan to remove the revealed irregularities, or lose its licenses.
“We are now engaged in a series of audits together with the Court of Accounts at the three cogeneration plants and other energy enterprises with regulated tariffs. After these inspections are over, we will pay increased attention to the companies on the petroleum market, including the large ones”, said Victor Parlicov.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency's duty is to ensure that energy companies do not exceed the profit rate limit set by the law for this type of business at 10%.
