The Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Norway signed a letter of intent to strengthen the partnership in the field of defense. The document also envisions assistance in military training and education, as well as the drafting of defense policy documents. The letter was signed by the Minister of Defense of Moldova Anatolie Nosatyi and his Norwegian counterpart Bjørn Arild Gram, who is in Chisinau on an official visit, accompanied by the Chief of Defense of Norway, General Eirik Kristoffersen, IPN reports.
During the meeting, the parties conferred on the recent information war, disinformation targeting the defense and security sectors, as well as the actions taken to enhance national resilience in order to counter hybrid threats and maintain peace, stability and the security of citizens.
Among the important aspects of the dialogue was the examination of the possibilities of Norway providing assistance in the modernization of the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova and ways to advance the cooperation relations between the two armies.
The officials also addressed topics related to the current strategic objectives of the defense institution, including the intensification of the National Army's contribution to international efforts to maintain peace and stability and strengthening of cooperation relations with foreign partners. They discussed the Security and Defense Partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, signed in May, and the importance of Norway promoting initiatives and projects for the transformation of Moldova’s defense institution at international level.
