Defeats for Moldova at Chess Olympiad

Moldova's chess players suffered defeats in the fourth round of the 39th Chess Olympiad taking place in the Russian town of Khanty-Mansiysk, Info-Prim Neo reports. The men's team lost the game against Israel, 1-3. Only Viorel Bologan and Viorel Iordachescu managed to end their games tied. In the general standings Moldova slipped to the 67th position out of 169 countries. In the next round the Moldovan chess players will encounter Australia. The women's team lost to Peru, 1.5-2.5; Ana-Maria Ursu snatched a victory, and Diana Baciu a draw; as a result of which, Moldova is ranked 51st. In the fifth round, the Moldovan women's team will play against Macedonia. The 39th World Chess Olympiad brought together 1,380 chess players from over 100 countries. The competition will end on October 4.
