Decree concerning June 28 endangered talks in 5+2 format, PDM leader
The presidential decree to institute the Soviet Occupation Day on June 28 endangered the talks in the 5+2 format, considers the chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu. He told the press that the Russian State Duma's reaction to this decree was predictable, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The talks in the 5+2 format hanged by a hair as our colleagues from the East and those from the West found themselves in a difficult situation when Acting President Mihai Ghimpu signed the decree that demands that Russia pull out its troops from Moldova's territory,” Marian Lupu said.
Asked to comment, the leader of the Liberal-Democrat parliamentary group Mihai Godea said he hopes the Moldovan-Russian relations will not deteriorate significantly. “For me, it is the Russian Government's and Russian Foreign Ministry's steps that count. The Parliament is only a platform for debates,” he said.
On June 30, the Russian Duma adopted a declaration, condemning the Moldovan Acting President's decree. “This decree can only provoke repulsion to the attempts to falsify history and to the negligence towards the Moldovan nation and Moldova's statehood,” the declaration reads. The Russian deputies criticized the decree as an attempt by the Moldovan authorities to distract public attention from the real problems faced by Moldova, saying it can lead to divisions in society.
