Decrease in drug prices is a hoax, Fiodor Ghelici

Chairman of the Association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici, who is a member of the Civil Society Congress, said the decrease in the prices of drugs is a hoax. In a news conference on January 17, the businessman brought the unguent Pimafucin. He said that last autumn it was sold for 149 lei, but now it costs 220 lei. “Those who said the prices will go down lied. This example shows the prices did not drop, but rose by about 50%. We believe the medications can indeed get cheaper, but the problem is that Vlad Filat cannot obtain this or does not want to as this is not convenient for him,” Fiodor Ghelici said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Fiodor Ghelici also said that he does not trust the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime. Therefore, he will request the Premier to set up an alternative independent commission that would monitor how the prices of drugs are set, in parallel with the state bodies. He said he could head this commission. “The Center inspects the drugstores, but the inspections should be carried out at the importers first. The difference between the Center and our commission is that the servants make money and take bribe, but we will work for the people’s benefit,” said Fiodor Ghelici. He stressed that he will offer his help to Premier Vlad Filat in checking the formation of drug prices. “Even if we are not accepted, we will monitor how the prices are set,” said Fiodor Ghelici. In the same news conference, Igor Caldare, suspended director of the National Standardization Institute, said a team was created that will put forward proposals for working out the control mechanism. “In some cases we will propose amendments within the institutional reform, which will hinder the civil servants from doing what they do now, not only as regards medications,” said Igor Caldare. He added that the team does not intend to stage revolutions, but will follow those who have stolen until now. The monitoring of the drugs market should be the task of civil society. On January 17, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime started to inspect the drugstores to see how they adjusted the prices to those included in the National Catalogue of Drug Prices that came into force on January 1.
