Decision to introduce visa regime with Romania is very important for strengthening Moldova’s statehood, Vladimir Voronin
The introduction of the visa regime with Romania will enable to control the Romanian citizens that enter Moldova because it was established that persons that came from Romania to Chisinau took part in the protests taking place in the center of the town,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan, explaining Wednesday’s decision of the Government. From today, April 9, the Romanian citizens can travel to Moldova only on the basis of visas, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Asked how many Romanians were identified among the protesters, the Deputy Minister said that they cannot provide exact figures yet. He also said that the EU organizations were also informed about the introduction of the visa regime with Romania.
Attending the meeting of the Government, the incumbent President Vladimir Voronin said that the given decision is very important for strengthening the statehood of the Republic of Moldova as Romania constantly interferes in Moldova’s affairs. The head of state reiterated that the protests in downtown Chisinau are nothing but elements of a putsch and that the hoisting of Romania’s flag on the building of the Presidential Office is not accidental.
The visas will be issued free of charge only at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Moldova in Bucharest within a period of time that “will be maximally convenient for the citizens of the neighboring country”, Andrei Stratan said.
