The Comrat Appeals Court on Thursday suspended the decision by the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia by which an event titled “Ribbon of Saint George” was authorized, IPN reports.
The People’s Assembly’s decision was suspended until a final court judgment is passed. The Comrat Appeals Court’s decision can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice within 15 days.
The court took such a decision after the Comrat Local Office of the State Chancellery disputed in court the decision adopted by the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia on April 29. According to the adopted document, the ban on the use of the ribbon on Saint George was lifted on the territory of Gagauzia.
The use of war symbols, including the ribbon of Saint George, was banned in Moldova by a Parliament decision adopted on April 20. The private individuals who will disobey the ban face a fine of at most 9,000 lei or 30 to 60 hours of community service, the persons holding responsible posts - a fine of at most 18,000 lei, while legal entities – of maximum 30,000 lei.
