Decision on Filat’s arrest delayed until tomorrow

The Buiucani District Court ordered adjourning the hearing to examine the application concerning the arrest of former Premier Vlad Filat until October 18, 9am, IPN reports.

Filat didn’t come to the court of law on October 17. His lawyer Igor Popa said the politician filed an application to be examined by a doctor and asked that the court should pronounce in his absence.

The period of 72 hours of arrest imposed on the Lib-Dem expires at 5:45pm on October 18. If the court does not issue an arrest warrant, Vlad Filat will be set free, stated Igor Popa.

Parliament withdrew the immunity of MP Vlad Filat by the votes of 79 lawmakers, following a request of the prosecutor general. The Liberal-Democratic heavyweight is accused of passive corruption and influence peddling.
