Decision makers investigated for misuse of money within “Caravel of Culture” project

The Prosecutor General’s Office started an investigation into the misuse of the about 2 million lei allocated for the project “Caravel of Culture” by decision makers of the public association “EuroMoldovaArt”, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the PGO. Using the conclusions of the January 21 report of the Audit Office, which focused on the use of the money allocated for supporting the project “Caravel of Culture” in 2005 – 2009, the PGO established that “EuroMoldovaArt” misused the public money allotted for the project. The legal case was sent to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for examination. Earlier, Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said that the project “Caravel of Culture” swallowed millions of lei from the state budget. “All the goods bought by Lenuta Burghila (who initiated the project – e.n.) with state money will be returned to the Ministry of Culture,” said the minister. The Association “EuroMoldovaArt” was set up by Lenuta Burghila during the Communist government. Also then, she launched the company Elen-ArtStudio, the journal “Caravela” and the program “Caravel of Culture” on TV Moldova 1. The press reported that the singer in the period bought a luxurious house in Chisinau’s Telecentru quarter.
