Decentralization Strategy will be adopted by start of July

The draft National Decentralization Strategy will be passed in the second reading until the end of the spring-summer session, by the start of July, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said in the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova on June 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu said the draft strategy in the second reading will be passed with a number of amendments. He stressed that this strategy is very important because it will provide the local authorities with sufficient resources and real powers. The Congress’s head Tatiana Badan said the local authorities took part in the process of drafting the strategy, but regret that the steps to strengthen local autonomy are taken with delay. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said a number of powers were transferred to the local authorities during the last few years. A number of changes will be made to the Law on the Local Public Administration. The legislation on administrative decentralization and the status of the local elected authorities is also to be refined. The mayors who came to the congress said the National Decentralization Strategy should be adopted as soon as possible. Mayor of Orhei Vitalie Colun said this strategy is needed for strengthening the capacities of the local public authorities and for improving the quality of the services provided for the people. The National Decentralization Strategy was adopted in the first reading at the start of April.
