The Great Union of December 1 must be celebrated in the Republic of Moldova as well, consider members of the unionist party The Right. In a news conference, the party’s leader Ana Gutu said that today, December 1, the Romanians everywhere mark the 98th anniversary of the Great Union of December 1, 1918. On this day, the Romanian nation and territories united and an unprecedented period of modernization started, first of all for the people from Bessarabia and from the entire Royal Romania, stated Ana Gutu, quoted by IPN.
According to the politician, during the 25 years of independence, the Republic of Moldova didn’t manage to resolve the most important problem, concerning its identity. Time has come for openly and responsibly discussing the historical truth in Moldova and this truth must be pronounced by political leaders too. “We want this unprecedented, historical act of 1918 to be repeated as soon as possible so that the Romanian nation, which remains the only divided European nation constituted historically, joins together,” stated Ana Gutu.
Chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu also gave a news conference, where he said that the process of the Great Union was initiated by Romanian Moldovans. “We declared the unification of all the Romanians and Bukovina followed out example. We must celebrate this great holiday even if we are today in the Republic of Moldova that appeared as a result of the occupation of June 28, 1940,” said the Liberal leader.
In the Great National Assembly of Alba Iulia of December 1, 1918, it was decided that the provinces Bessarabia, Bukovina ,Transylvania, Banat, Crisana, Maramures and Satmar will unite with the Romanian Kingdom.
