The persons who live in homes that can be privatized will be able to register these dwellings in their name until May 31 2024, being obliged to register the ownership right in the way stipulated by the Law on the Cadaster of Real Estate. The extension of the deadline that is to expire this May was approved by a bill that was given a final reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

The legislative proposal’s authors, the MPs of the PPPDA, said the bill was drafted at the request of citizens who haven’t yet managed to register the dwellings in their name for different reasons.

The authors noted that the citizens in this period face a series of problem, such as the financial crisis and the reduced possibility of traveling and of using the services of public institutions. These factors directly influence the possibility of registering the homes. “Many of the persons who notified us said the courts of law are examining a number of cases related to the issue and the examinations can last after May 31, 2021. Also, most of the citizens who haven’t registered their dwellings are older persons who are primarily in a financially precarious position,” argued the MPs.

According to them, it would be inequitable and unfair to deprive the citizens of the right to come into possession of dwellings without offering them the possibility of effectively exercising this right.
