The Cabinet approved a bill to institute the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Organized Famine on the third Saturday in April. The bill supplements the Parliament decision on commemorative days, bank holidays and nonworking days, IPN reports.
Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală said there will be commemorated the victims of the famine organized by the Soviet Communist regime in 1946-1947. The bill authors noted it is opportune to remember the over 200,000 people who died as a result of that terror famine.
“By its civic and social components, this memorial day comes to directly contribute to the formation of general culture, of a system of values typical of civilized society based on education for memory culture by teaching about historical events that, taken as proof and guarantee of judgment of people’s actions, influence social interpretations, interactions and behavior,” stated the minister.
This spring, it will be 75 years of the registration of the largest number of victims of the terrible famine of 1946-1947.
