Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated in Chisinau

About 120 persons with disabilities presented works made by them at an exhibition and sale mounted in Chisinau on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities that is observed on December 3. The event was organized by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, IPN reports.

The exhibit brought together persons with disabilities from all over the country. They said they came to the event to show that the persons with disabilities have also abilities.

Tatiana Bezerdic from Chisinau suffers from a rare disease and is confined to a wheelchair. But this fact does not prevent her from making different things. “We want to show that we also have skills. Maybe those attending could find a job for us or could purchase some of our works. I brought fir trees, caps, scarves and other things I make daily at home,” she stated.

Nina Mandreanu came from the Cocieri-based old people’s homes. She took part in such exhibitions earlier too. “I get acquainted with different people here. I see nice things made by children and learn from them too. I haven’t yet sold exhibits, but bought some,” she said.

Acting Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Mircea Buga said the Ministry is taking steps to integrate the people with disabilities into society. “We are permanently in contact with out foreign partners and find out what formulas are used in the EU states. We borrow examples of creating new services and establishing social entrepreneurship, which is opening enterprises there where these persons can become involved,” he stated.

Acting Minister of Education Corina Fusu said the guaranteeing of the right to education is one of the Ministry’s main objectives. “The development of the capacities of the children with disabilities and the observance of their rights are indicators of the social responsibility of our society,” she stated.

According to the data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, in Moldova there are 184,800 persons with disabilities, about 130,000 of whom are children aged between 0 and 17.
