David Kramer: Moldova authorities’ participation in more international events would speed up the settlement of the Transnistria crisis

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Kramer considers that the participation of the Moldovan authorities in a larger number of international events would make the situation and the position of Moldova widely known and would contribute to speeding up the settlement of the Transnistrian problem. During his meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, who is participating in the GUAM Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, the American official affirmed that he supports the efforts made by Chisinau to solve the Transnistrian problem. He emphasised the need to discharge the peace-keeping troops in the region and to create a civil contingent. The American official has also reiterated the necessity of urging the Russian Federation to fulfil the commitments assumed at the OSCE Istanbul summit on the withdrawal of ammunitions and troops from Moldova. Prime Minister Tarlev also attended the GUAM-Poland reunion and had a meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliev. During the meeting, the collocutors discussed the implementation of the commitments agreed during the earlier prime-minister’s visit to Baku. The parts opted for speeding up the opening of a direct air route between the two capitals.
