The first round of voting to elect Gagauzia's Governor will be held on 22 March 2015, and the second, if necessary, a fortnight later on 5 April 2015, as decided by the autonomy's parliament at its extraordinary meeting Saturday, IPN reports.
At the same meeting, the Gagauz People's Assembly also voted to amend the legislation regulating the election of the Governor, or Bashkan in the Gagauz language. One amendment is that gubernatorial candidates must produce at least 5,000 signatures in their support, and no more than 6,000. A second amendment is that the vote will be expressed by impressing a “voted” stamp on the ballot.
The term of the incumbent Bashkan Mihail Formuzal expires on 14 February 2015.
