Date of presidential elections not set
The examination of the draft decision concerning the fixing of the date of presidential elections was proponed again. On February 23, the MPs also decided to consider a number of items of the agenda, including the proposal on the reorganization of the economic courts, in the next sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The decision to postpone setting the date of the presidential elections was announced after a break of over an hour. The break was asked for by the Liberal MPs. Valeriu Munteanu said the break was needed as two of the proposals should be analyzed within the legal commission. He also said that the AEI will hold an extended meeting during the break.
After the break, Speaker Marian Lupu said that a number of bills will be examined in the next sitting.
Towards the end of the sitting, the Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat came in and said that he wanted to discuss the political agenda with Marian Lupu, not the election of the President. He also said that he expects the Liberal Party to pronounce on the two candidates proposed by the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party.
“The date of the presidential elections will be fixed. It does not matter when. The President is to be elected by March 15,” said Vlad Filat.
The Liberals said they will take a decision after the colleagues from the ruling alliance choose one of the two candidates for the presidency they fielded.
Last week, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu proposed that the head of state should be elected on March 15. But his proposal was rejected by the Liberal lawmakers. They said they will not vote for setting the date of the elections until a candidate is not identified.
