Date of presidential election to be announced by year's end

The date of the second attempt to elect the President will be announced by the end of the year, Speaker Marian Lupu told Parliament, in response to MP Igor Dodon's request to include the issue in the legislature's order of the day, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think it would be reasonable and fair to have a new date of the presidential election announced until the New Year”, stated Igor Dodon, the leader of the Socialists. According to Marian Lupu, the Parliament's Legal Commission assembled on Tuesday, December 27, to prepare a document announcing the date, which is to be signed by the end of this session. A second and final attempt to elect a President is to be held after the first attempt on December 16 failed, with Marian Lupu being short of three votes to take the country's top job. The Communists boycotted the election while the Socialists voted against Lupu.
