Date of meeting between Vladimir Voronin and Igor Smirnov still negotiated

The Chisinau authorities announce they still are coordinating the date of the next meeting between Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan Reintegration Ministry confirms the existence of a letter from Tiraspol proposing a meeting between the two leaders in October 9-10, but says President Voronin is not available then. “Taking into account that the Moldovan President will attend the Summit of the CIS heads of states in Bishkek, one proposes to organize this meeting on October 6,” reads a communique by the ministry. “Tiraspol informs about the impossibility to hold the meeting till October 8.” “Now consultations are held to coordinate the date of the planned working meeting between the President of Moldova and the Transnistrian leader. Other information about the results if the consultations will be announced later”. On October 7-8, talks on the Transnistrian issue in the 5+2 format were to take place in Vienna. They were adjourned, however, because the Transnistrian authorities refused to participate in the event.
