The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research has launched the Education Management Information System (EMIS), IPN reports. Accessing sime.md, all the players involved in the education process will be able to obtain complex and updated data with a minimum level of error, promise the authorities.

Project coordinator Sergiu Harea said the system will enable to obtain data about such issues as school abandonment, school network, number of children in classes, distance between school and student, district schools, etc. The data will be used in the student-based allocation formula.

The website can be accessed in three languages. There will be published reports that will contain data about the number of students, teachers and subjects and about school infrastructure. The parents of children with special educational needs will be able to see if the equipment of education institutions meets the requirements.

According to Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, the creation of an electronic map of the education system of the Republic of Moldova is undoubtedly a step forward in developing the whole national education sector. ”We need rapid access to exhaustive information that will enable us to take swift and competent decisions. This will be done by rapid cooperation and interlinking between different education systems,” she stated.

Each institution will have an administrator who will update and coordinate the data from the system. This, in cooperation with the institution’s director and all the teachers, will coordinate the data. The system will also have a district administrator who will manage all the data from district institutions and a national administrator.

To implement the project, the World Bank donated US$ 365,000.
