The coach of the national Under-21 football team of Moldova Danut Oprea tendered his resignation after the 0-4 defeat suffered in Croatia, IPN reports.

Moldova suffered the sixth consecutive defeat in the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying competition and has slim chances of avoiding the last but one position in the group. In September, Moldova plays Belarus and San Marino at home, while in October it meets the Czech Republic away.

Danut Oprea will continue to serve as head coach at the Moldovan Football Federation. In his career, the Romanian coach also trained the national Under-19 football team of Moldova and Veris.
