Daniel Ionita: We attentively follow how money provided by Romania is spent

Romania attentively follows the way in which the money provided to the Republic of Moldova is spent, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“We attentively monitor absolutely all the projects that were financed with money offered by the Government of Romania. Moreover, we have audit reports on absolutely all the financed projects and, when we identify irregularities, we do not hesitate to signal them and to also ask the money back,” said the diplomat.

According to him, there were situations when Romania requested at least a part of the money back because the contracts haven’t been fulfilled according to the commitments assumed by the two sides. “In our country this money is also strictly monitored by the Court of Auditors of Romania and we are obliged to make sure that they money from the Romanian taxpayers is spent for the right purpose,” stated Daniel Ionita.

He noted that the projects developed by Romania in Moldova are intended for all the citizens of Moldova, regardless of the spoken language, ethnicity or the place where they live. “This was a condition that we tried to impose and that we followed strictly,” added Daniel Ionita.
