The solution that should be found in the 5+2 format, from the viewpoint of Romania, should be mandatorily negotiated diplomatically and should equally satisfy the sides, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.
According to the diplomat, Romania does not form part of the 5+2 format directly, but is present there implicitly. “The European Union, when it speaks about this issue, speaks also in the name of Romania and other European states. When the OSCE is there, we are part of the OSCE. At the same time, Romania is a neighboring state that is most interested in security, stability and in a solution that would meet the needs of all the people,” said Daniel Ioniță.
He noted that Romania strongly believes in Moldova’s European future and knows that this future is impossible without the substantial reformation of the state and the strengthening of Moldova’s institutional capacities so that the country copes with different internal and external challenges. “For the purpose, Romania can use a number of instruments in the Republic of Moldova. The most important instrument is provided by the Strategic Partnership for supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova that was signed nine years ago and that represents a ‘Bible’ for us in our external actions,” stated the ambassador.
As to the visit paid by Prime Minister Maia Sandu to Bucharest recently, Daniel Ioniță said it was a full-option one and what is important as regards political contacts could be achieved. “We will remain those very active advocates that support the objectives of the Republic of Moldova in Brussels or abroad,” he said.
The diplomat also said that the extension of the Union highway up to Chisinau and the building of a bridge over the Prut near Ungheni town are not phantasy projects, but they will last long. The works to build the highway will not start tomorrow. However, it is normal to connect Europe to Moldova through Romania.
