Daniel Ioniță: Romanian soldiers who died on this land fought for county’s reintegration

“The generation of our grandparents witnessed war and famine, while the Romanian soldiers who died on this land fought for the reintegration of the country, for justice and freedom, for this piece of land between the Prut and the Nistru, which belonged to Romania following the great event of December 1, 1918 and was separated from the country’s body as a result of the odious Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact,” Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță stated in an event held to celebrate the Romanian Army Day at the Cemetery of Honor of Romania Army Heroes in Mana village of Orhei district, IPN reports.

According to Romania’s Embassy, the ambassador assured that Romania was, is and will always be near the Republic of Moldova, will support its European course and will implement projects in support of the citizens. He congratulated the Romanian Army and thanked for its contribution to the building of the modern Romanian state, which is now perfectly integrated into the European and Euro-Atlantic spaces of values. He underlined the importance of everyone’s responsible and solidary effort to efficiently fight the COVID-19 pandemic that is a new challenge for the whole world.

Colonel Cristi Ladaniuc, military, air and naval attaché of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, in his speech underlined that the day of the Romanian army is a day with special significance for the history of Romania as it celebrates an important event of the Romanian Army in fighting as part of World War II, respectively the freeing of Careii Mari – the last piece of Rumanian land occupied by the enemy – at the cost of the lives of over 50,000 Romanian soldiers. The Romanian Army Day is devoted to the sacrifice of the Romanian soldiers who sacrificed themselves during our whole history,” stated Cristi Ladaniuc.

The military attaché noted that the Romanian Cemetery of Honor in Mana includes the graves of 16 Romanian heroes of Regiment No. 32 Dorobanți, two of whom were identified and 14 weren’t identified. They died in the line of duty on July 14, 1941 as a result of fighting in Mana Valley for freeing Bessarabia from Soviet occupation, as a consequence of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact.
