Danger of landslides on railway
Landslides may happen on a sector of about 500 meters of the Giurgiulesti-Cahul railway line following the recent heavy rain. Floods are likely in Cahul district. The level of water of the Prut River in southern Moldova is expected to rise significantly the next days, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a video news conference on July 2, officials of the Emergencies Service in Cahul informed that measures are being taken to prevent landslides in the affected areas. 2,000 sacks with sand and four freight cars with gravel were taken there.
The situation in Ungheni district remains difficult as the water level in the Prut there increased to six meters. Six vehicles work to strengthen the dams.
Employees of the Emergencies Service in Briceni district reported that 559 hectares of crop fields and five houses were flooded there. Twelve persons were evacuated.
In Sanatauca village of Floresti district, there were affected 160 hectares of orchard, 252 hectares of corn, 24 hectares of vegetables and 4 hectares of tobacco. Eight kilometers of road were destroyed.
Five houses in Nisporeni district run the risk of being inundated. The Prut water flooded 2.6 hectares of corn.
The situation in the other districts is stable. The head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Mihai Harabagiu said rescuers are dispatched when necessary and the situation is permanently monitored.
