Nicolae Timofti is in the most difficult situation ever because he will have to choose between early elections and the nomination of Vlad Plahotniuc for the post of Prime Minister, Dan Dungaciu, director of the Institute of Political Science and International Relations of the Romanian Academy, said in the program “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
Dan Dungaciu considers Ion Sturza will not garner the necessary number of votes in Parliament and Timofti will have to take the important decision before the second attempt to install the Government. “It will be a difficult and terrible decision. If he insists on his candidate, he will lead the country towards early elections. In this case, the pro-European course could be changed and Timofti risks being accused of this situation. On the other hand, if he accepts the PDM’s proposal, the controversial businessman Vlad Plahotniuc could become head of Government,” he stated.
As to candidate Ion Sturza, Dungaciu said this will not obtain the number of votes needed to be voted in. “It will be a very difficult exercise for Ion Sturza because he harshly criticized the political leaders of the parliamentary parties. It is a fruitless attempt,” stated the analyst.
Dan Dungaciu believes that Ion Sturza will come to Parliament to present his government program and the list of Cabinet members, this being a chance to return to politics. “I think that Sturza will go till the end to obtain a platform to present his program. He will be in the focus of public opinion and the mass media. Sturza could have accepted to run in the event of early elections,” he said.
