Damian Hancu asks President to contribute to elucidating April 7 case

Damian Hancu, the young man who took part in the April 7, 2009 events, addressed an open letter to Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti, in which he voices hope that the head of state will contribute to elucidating the April 7 case within his possibilities and powers, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This spring started in Moldova on March 16, both for the Moldovans who believe in democracy and for the young people who protested peacefully against the Communist regime in Moldova on April 7, 2009,” says Damian Hancu. He stated that every time he remembers the young people who were maltreated after the protests, he remembers Valeriu Boboc who died during those events, Ion Tabuleac, Radu Ciobanu, Eugen Tapu, Maxim Kanishev, and the cries of the girls raped by policemen. “The young people who protested peacefully in Chisinau three years ago also fought for a change in the political course of Moldova. They chose the way towards integration into the EU and NATO. I continue to feel the suffering caused in April 2009 even if I am thousands of kilometers away from Moldova. The distance erases nothing, not even after many years,” said the young man who studies for his Master’s Degree at the Faculty of Law in Aix-Marseille, France. Damian Hancu also said he wants to believe that the sacrifice of the young people who died for freedom on April 7, 2009 can lead only to Moldova’s integration into NATO and its return home, in the EU.
