Damage caused by recent heavy rain at over 90m lei
The heavy rain of May 14 – June 3 affected 94 settlements from 25 districts of the country. The damage caused was assessed at over 90 million lei. The losses in agriculture total about 76 million lei. The information was made public at the June 4 meeting of the national commission for emergencies that is chaired by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc said a part of the losses are due to the lack of anti-hail rockets. He suggested allocating an additional 15 million lei for purchasing 2,200 anti-hail rockets, it is said in a communique from the Government.
Vlad Filat expressed his indignation at the fact that the losses in agriculture are so high. “We saved 15 million lei and lost more and the people suffer the consequences,” Filat said, adding an analysis of Moldova's anti-hail system will be made at the end of the year.
Moldova's Water Agency director general Ion Lupu said there are is no risk of floods in the basins of the rivers Nistru and Prut and the situation is under control. According to the data made known at the meeting, the dams are 960 kilometers long. 720 kilometers are managed by the state.
Vlad Filat ordered devising a plan for repairing the dams by the next meeting of the Government. He said the executive will decide how to help the households affected by the recent heavy rain and floods.
