Over 130 communities were affected by the rainstorms with hail of June 18 and 19. Some of these are still disconnected from the supply of electricity. The damage caused by the natural disasters last week was discussed in a working meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, IPN reports.
The Premier expressed his dissatisfaction with the way in which the local authorities acted. “If the State Hydrometeorological Service issues warnings, these are intended not for broadcasting news, but first of all for the authorities to take measures. When such advisories are issued, the drainage channels and sewerage systems must be first of all checked so as to prevent problems,” stated Pavel Filip.
“The top priority is to see how we can help the people so that they do not remain without homes as a result of the June 18 hail. We should yet not forget about the damage done to farmland. The Ministry of Agriculture was instructed to assess the damage caused in agriculture. Almost the whole territory of Moldova was affected.”
Mihai Harabagiu, head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said that two children were hurt during the rain with hail. In the over 130 villages of 12 districts, the roofs of more than 700 houses, education institutions, storehouses and sociocultural institutions and 158 km of local roads were damaged. The districts of Ungheni, Soldanesti and Floresti were the worst hit.
It was decided to set up a specialized commission that will verify the information about the damage caused by the hail and the way in which the local authorities reacted in emergencies.
