Dacian Ciolos: Romania will remain a sincere advocate of Moldova’s European prospects

Romania is and will continue to be a sincere advocate of Moldova’s European prospects. The statement was made by Romanian Prime Minister during a meeting with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, IPN reports.

According to the Romanian official, the Moldovan government had to show it could implement reforms before receiving the first installment of a loan from Bucharest. “I hope this support from us will help open more European funding for Moldova”, said Ciolos.

The two officials also discussed about the rapid progress in the last stages of connecting Moldova to the European energy market. Dacian Ciolos said that there are Romanian companies willing to invest in Moldova, including in the energy sector. If the right signals come from Chisinau, these investments could materialize over the next few months. “These initiatives will contribute to the safety and well-being of Moldovan citizens”, assured the Romanian PM.

Nicolae Timofti expressed his gratitude for Romania’s receptiveness towards Moldova, citing the first installment of the loan and humanitarian aid for needy families in Moldova. “This help came exactly when we needed it most and this proves Romania is a trusty friend of our country”, said the President.

This is the first visit in Moldova of Romanian PM Dacian Ciolos since coming into office.
