Czech soprano Lucie Kaňková starts new season with La Traviata in Chisinau

Czech soprano Lucie Kaňková began a new season at three national theaters in three countries, including the Republic of Moldova, and during three weeks will sing her favorite roles. In Chisinau, she will perform the main role in La Traviata, under the direction of conductor Andriy Yurkevych, on September 5, IPN reports.

“Excellent Spanish tenor Celso Albelo – a student of the legendary Carlo Bergonzi – will be my Alfredo. He performs at the most famous operas of the world, such as MET, Covent Garden and La Scala. Renowned baritone Lucian Petrean will play the part of Germont. This is a great motivation. I’m eager to make my visit to Chisinau,” stated Lucie Kaňková.

On September 14, the soprano will perform the aria Queen of the Night (Die Königin der Nacht) at the Estates Theater in Prague. She said she had to wait for almost a year to make this debut at the theater owing to the pandemic restrictions. “It is a tight start of season. I travel a lot. Last week I performed the famous arias Die Königin der Nacht and La Traviata at a gala concert in Odessa, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence,” said the singer.

Lucie Kaňková used the spare time during the COVID-19 restrictions to develop her skills and managed to win a number of awards at international signing contests. For example, this spring she won Nomea Competition, while six month earlier she got the public’s award in the online Australian singing competition.
