Czech President Petr Pavel has reaffirmed the Czech Republic's firm support for the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova. The statement was made at a press conference held together with President Maia Sandu during his visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.
President Pavel referred to the cooperation of the two countries in a number of areas, especially in the field of security, modernization of the armed forces, border protection and cooperation with NATO. The officials discussed the regional security situation in the context of the war in Ukraine.
"Each time I stressed that it is at Moldova's discretion to decide when and in what way to cooperate with NATO. If we talk about the Czech Republic and the Republic of Moldova, we really cooperate in a series of areas and try to strengthen the capacities of the security sector," said the Czech official.
"We exchange experience in how best to combat this interference of the Russian Federation in internal affairs," pointed out Maia Sandu.
The Moldovan official stressed the importance of peace and stability in the region, appreciating the Czech Republic's strong support for Ukraine.
"By helping Ukraine, you are helping the Republic of Moldova because our security is closely linked to that of our neighbors,” said President Sandu.
"I reiterate the Czech Republic's commitment to freedom and security in Europe, and the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union is also a guarantee of regional security," said President Pavel.
Another example of support was witnessed during the energy crisis in Moldova, when the Czech Republic provided €835,000 in financial support to help Moldovans cope with the rising energy prices.
