Czech Republic donates medical protective equipment to Moldova

The Czech Republic donates personal protective equipment to the Republic of Moldova. The humanitarian lot contains costumes, gloves, masks and protective equipment. The donation is estimated at over €600,000, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

“Moldova was struck by the pandemic and by the refugee crisis. Consequently, we decided to help the people of Moldova at the request of the Government of the Republic of Moldova,” said the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Chisinau Stanislav Kázecký, being quoted in the press release.

The Czech Republic’s support is offered through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism within the Team Europe approach that the EU and the member states apply to help the Republic of Moldova overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and to manage the refugee crisis.

The Republic of Moldova is one of the main countries to which the Czech humanitarian aid is directed. Besides this donation, the Czech Republic directly supports the Ukrainian refugees through the agency of a local NGO. The project has a budget of €400,000. The Czech companies will also supply mobile clinics, rescue kits and beds. The donation will be handed over to the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of Moldova, which will ensure the distribution of the assistance where it is necessary.

“The Republic of Moldova is also a long-term beneficiary of the development assistance of the Czech Republic. The development projects focus on the main sectors, such as the sustainable management of natural resources, development of social inclusion, good democratic governance and agriculture. The annual budget for development cooperation is about €3 million,” runs the press release.
