Czech partners donate intervention equipment to Moldovan firemen

Firefighting units of Moldova received chemical decontamination equipment, defibrillators, a training module and a tank intended for training within a Moldovan-Czech risk management partnership. Within the same partnership, a field exercises to train firemen deal with the consequences of chemical accidents was staged in Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, a road accident where a large quantity of a toxic substance leaked was stimulated as part of the exercise. The task of the rescuers was to identity the dangerous substance and to stop chemical contamination. In several minutes, a person who was in a risky area was evacuated, while experts localized the leakage. The firemen used protection equipment that was later decontaminated.

The goal of the exercise was to test Moldovan firefighters’ intervention capacities for alleviating the consequences of chemical accidents. The training involved 24 employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, who had been instructed by 12 Czech firemen during seven days.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service has cooperated with the Czech representatives since 2015. Within the partnership, there was built a container with smoke intended for training firemen in a noxious environment. The total value of the project is €300,000. The money was provided by the Czech representatives for equipment and training.
