Czech Embassy offers €15,000 in aid to blind people in Moldova

The National Center for Information and Rehabilitation of Blind People of Moldova has received €15,000 in aid from the Czech Embassy to buy equipment necessary for teaching people with vision deficiencies, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy Head of the Blind People Society Stefan Oprea said that the equipment was purchased through a program meant to improve the process of training and teaching within the National Center for Information and Rehabilitation. Thanks to this aid, the Center bought equipment that will facilitate reading. It also bought Braille sheets that will allow writing and editing books for the blind at the center’s mini-printing house. “Technology doesn’t stop, it moves forward, including to the benefit of the blind”, said Stefan Oprea. Czech Ambassador in Chisinau Jaromir Kvapil said that Moldova was one of the top partners in the field of development projects in public sectors. Yearly, Moldova receives €3 million in aid from the Czech Republic. In 2011, 40 wheelchairs were bought for people with impaired mobility. The diplomat said that he deeply understood the suffering of people with sight deficiencies, as he himself had a bad sight. “My right eye is blind after when I was two years old a fever killed the eye’s nerve. I know the troubles my mother went through because of me and I really wanted to help these people and ease their suffering”, said the Ambassador. At the end of the event, the Ambassador proposed the Moldovan Society of Blind People and the Prague Conservatory for Blind People to build a closer friendship and to organize common meetings and events in the future.
