On World Suicide Prevention Day that is celebrated on September 10, a group of volunteer cyclists will go on a race through the center of Chisinau to show solidarity with the need to prevent suicide. The race starts from the Triumphal Arch at 9am, IPN reports.
Similar races are held concurrently in 40 states. By these the participants will transmit a message about the necessity of taking care of those who are near and of knowing the signs showing that a person intends to commit suicide. The race will be followed by a communication event for children and grownups entitled “Take a minute to inform yourself as you can prevent a tragedy”, at 11am.
Liuba Ceban, founder of the Green Line for Suicide Prevention, said there was launched a fundraising campaign titled “Challenge 100”. The goal is to collect €30,000 in September and to later launch a similar campaign in 100 villages and disseminate the message as to the necessity of preventing suicide. The money will be used to extend the free counseling service of the Green Line for Suicide Prevention.
“Our call today is to help us to reach the communities where suicide is felt most painfully. We call on all the players from the country, starting with the Government, embassies and people, to take part in the campaign and not to ignore the necessity of financially supporting the cause of suicide prevention,” said Liuba Ceban.
According to the official reports, about 500 people kill themselves annually in Moldova. Since 2012, the Green Line 060806623 emotionally supported over 3,000 people who went through crisis situations.
