Customs Service will spend 40 million lei to install a new video surveillance system

The Customs Service will spend 40 million lei to install a new system of real-time video monitoring of the crossing process, vehicles and persons at the customs posts. The Cabinet approved this week a Concept to this effect. The project was worked out by the Customs Service and aims at guaranteeing video surveillance at the customs checkpoints, including recording the registration plates of the vehicles in order to verify them later. The project will be implemented during 2007-2008 at 52 customs posts, 13 of which are located near the Transnistrian region. The Concept will serve as basis for drafting the Customs Service’s plans and projects concerning video surveillance of the border crossing process, preventing and fighting illegal trade of merchandise, vehicles or persons at the customs posts, as well as diminishing the number of corruption cases among the customs structures.
