The administrative system of the Customs Service will be cut and will have by 200 employees fewer. The hiring and firing of administrative personnel will be governed by special norms, IPN reports, quoting the amendments made by the Cabinet to the regulations on the organization and functioning of the Customs Service.
The Cabinet also approved a decision to negotiate and sign a five-year memorandum of understanding that will enable to continue reforms in custom administration. Under the document, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development will offer free the Customs Service of Moldova the newest version of the Integrated Customs Information System Asycuda.
This electronic system ensures increased efficiency in customs control and clearance procedures and secures the stored information, enabling exchange of information with similar external bodies and cooperation with these in the ICT sector.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development pledged to provide strategic and technical assistance, support and training in using the information system through the agency of projects.
