Members of the National Anticorruption Council “Moldova Mea” and of the public association “Realitate si Adevar” (“Reality and Truth”) said the director general of the Customs Service Tudor Balitski caused a road accident in January 2011 and hid this fact. In that accident, a man aged 49 from Orhei district was injured and stayed in the hospital for almost four months, IPN reports.

Veaceslav Balacci, an associate member of “Realitate si Adevar”, told a news conference on April 4 that information about this accident came out only this February. An investigation was launched to elucidate this case. It was established that on January 11, 2011, at about 7pm, Tudor Balitski struck a pedestrian by a Customs Service car, hurting him seriously. The accident happened near the cafe “Cetatea” in Peresecina, Orhei. Eyewitnesses said that Balitski was under the influence and had a beer in his hands when he got out of the car.

According to Balacci, the victim was on the sidewalk, not far from the crosswalk, when he was hit. The man was operated immediately. Iron bars were introduced in his legs. All the hospitalization and treatment costs were covered by Tudor Balitski and customs officer Vasile Mita, who is investigated as a suspect.

The members of “Moldova Mea” Council and “Realitate si Adevar” Association said that the case was entrusted to the Orhei Police Inspectorate employee Valentin Parnaz, who visited the victim in the hospital, intimidated him and forced him to sign a false report.

The two organizations will follow the case to see if appropriate penalties are imposed on those to blame.
