The Customs Service by the end of his year will finalize the draft risk management strategy and will thus become the first authority in the region that will possess such a document. The subject was discussed in a meeting of the Customs Service’s director general Vitalie Vrabie and the Head of the EUBAM Office in Moldova Slawomir Pichor, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Customs Service says the given strategy will ensure greater efficiency in the prevention and combating of customs frauds and, consequently, full collection of customs duties into the state budget.
The interlocutors also discussed the institution of joint border control on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border and the implementation stage of the project to organize joint control at the Palanca customs posts as well as the possibility of extending this practice to pother posts. The benefits of this project include the acceleration of transfrontier traffic, increased transparency in the checking process and significant diminution of possible corruption risks.
Another subject for discussion was the Customs Service’s initiative to reduce the travel duration of the Chisinau – Odessa train from five to three hours by excluding a number of stops. In this case, the customs check will be performed at the place of destination.
Vitalie Vrabie said the Customs Service makes effort to increase the performance indicators on all the segments that are in its charge. “The implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, in particular of the chapter concerning the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, imposes new rigors with which we must cope. Therefore, we should identify viable mechanisms for optimizing work and the financial resources needed for accelerating the implementation of these mechanisms,” stated Vitalie Vrabie.
For his part, Slawomir Pichor said the results achieved by the Customs Service generate new opportunities for attracting financing funds so as to put into practice new conceptions for facilitating trade and optimizing work.
