An employee of the Customs Service was detained on passive corruption charges. He is suspected of claiming and receiving 1200 euros from a citizen for the customs clearance of a car imported from Germany, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the National Anti-Corruption Center, the denouncer reportedly brought the car into the country without customs clearance. Because his papers were not all in order, he approached the customs employee, who asked for 1200 euros for his services.
The CNA has initiated criminal prosecution for passive corruption. If found guilty, the customs officer risks imprisonment from 3 to 7 years, fines ranging from 4000 to 6000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to hold public functions or to perform a certain activity for a term from 5 to 10 years.
