In the current election campaign for the new local elections of Chisinau municipality that will take place on May 20, they will again speak mainly about geopolitics and the real problems of the inhabitants will be ignored, said experts invited to the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Activist Vitalie Voznoi said it is easier to speak about geopolitics than to seriously address the real problems of the citizens. Currently, there are two candidates supported by large party teams, Ion Ceban and Andrei Nastase, and eventual candidate Silvia Radu. The chances of the Liberals’ candidate Valeriu Munteanu are nil.

Alla Revenko, founder of the Association “Solidary Parents”, said she would like the current election campaign for the mayoralty of Chisinau to focus on people’s needs and problems, the unprecedented level of corrosion and the insufficiency of teaching staff. “These are problems that worry the people. The unionism or “the hand of Moscow” are just manipulations aimed at distracting the people’s attention and at dividing them,” stated Alla Revenco. She added that a united society is the biggest danger to the Moldovan political class.

Civic activist Sergiu Ungureanu said raising geopolitical themes is the easiest way for the candidates. “I try to imagine another script, but with the same players and see no other more professional politicians in these constituencies, who would be able to solve the problems and would not avoid the people,” he stated. According to the activist, if the candidates come up with concrete solutions to problems, they will be regarded in a different way by the inhabitants of Chisinau.

Historian Ruslan Shevchenko said they should not forget that this year it is the 100th anniversary of the Great Union and some of the candidates already announced that they will defend the union idea. This will help the Socialists strengthen their position.
