Currency transfers from abroad on the rise

Money transfers from abroad in favor of individuals through licensed banks last December came to a net value of US$108.03 million. The figure is by slightly over 12% higher than in December 2018. Transfers from the EU represented 46.3%, from the CIS - 21.4%, from the rest of the world – 32.3%, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, transfers from Russia totaled US$21.93 million or 20.3%, from Israel – US$ 20.74 million or 19.2%, from Italy – US$13.12 million or 12.1%, from other states – under 10%.

In terms of the type of currency, transfers in euros represented 56.4%, 5.2 percentage points up, in US dollars – 40.5%, 2.5 percentage points down, in Russian rubles – 3.1%, 2.7 percentage points up.

In January – December 2019, total bank transfers from abroad in favor of private individuals from Moldova came to US$ 1.222,89 billion, 3.5% down compared with the corresponding period last year.

The fluctuations of the exchange rate of currencies against the US dollar in December 2019 contributed 1.5 percentage points to the total decline of the value of transfers from abroad in favor of private individuals. De facto, eliminating the exchange rate by recalculating the sums according to the exchange rate in the given period of last year, the transfers rose in volume by 13.6%.
