Culture Ministry suggests turning section of 31 August St into pedestrian

The Ministry of Culture considers it is opportune to transform the section of the Chisinau street 31 August 1989 between Alexandr Pushkin and Mitropolit Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni St, which is partially covered with old granite cobblestones, into a pedestrian area. The recommendations were formulated based on the report provided by the National Archeology Agency, IPN reports.

At the current stage, it is recommended delimiting and securing the area in which the cobblestone paving wad found. The reconstruction works in this area will be resumed only after the authorized restoration project is implemented.

In this connection, the Ministry of Culture undertakes to launch public discussions and to shape a view on the creation of tourist pedestrian areas in the historical center of the city. The proposals will be discussed with the expert and representatives of civil society and with representatives of the Chisinau City Hall.

The cobblestone paving on 31 August 1989 St was discovered in March during street rehabilitation works. The Chisinau municipality said it is waiting for proposals to lay out the street within the limits of its financial possibilities.
