Persons holding important positions at the Ministry of Culture are investigated for misusing their authority when financing and monitoring the implementation of the project “Caravel of Culture”, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office. The Financial-Economic Investigations Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a legal case over this case. Prosecutors of the State Main Tax Inspectorate are to check the legality of paying taxes from the honorariums received by the participants in the project. At the end of last month, the Prosecutor General’s Office started an investigation into the abuse of power committed by decision makers of the public association “EuroMoldovaArt” within the project “Caravel of Culture” that was implemented at a cost of about 2 million lei. Both of the legal cases are based on the conclusions of the January 21 audit report on the use of the money allocated from the budget for supporting the project “Caravel of Culture” in 2005 – 2009. The investigation is conducted by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
