Culture Minister denies pressure on Landmarks Agency

Culture Minister Boris Focsa claims that the upcoming internal audit at the Landmarks Inspection and Restoration Agency is merely part of the Ministry's annual plan of inspections, denying that it was ordered to intimidate the Agency's staff, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We have an agenda. Each year, each quarter, audits are performed, and this agenda also included the Landmarks Inspection and Restoration Agency, which hasn't undergone any inspection for two years now”, the Minister said. Earlier the National Participatory Council and the Landmarks Agency have said in a statement that the Culture Minister puts pressure on the Agency subjecting it to unwarranted inspections in an attempt to intimidate its staff and bring them to silence. The document ordering the audit was issued shortly after the Agency publicly accused the Ministry's bureaucrats of corruption which leads to illegal demolition of protected landmarks.
