Culture halls must become centers of cultural excellence, MP

Culture halls in Moldovan localities must be transformed into center of cultural excellence, according to MP Ghenadie Ciobanu, member of the parliamentary commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media. Ghenadie Ciobanu told Info-Prim Neo that two years ago a project was started with funding from the European Cultural Foundation to rehabilitate 10 culture halls. The parliamentary commission addressed a letter to the ECF to extend this program so that over the next years more culture halls were rehabilitated. Another goal is to transform the culture halls into regional centers of cultural excellence. “The functions of a center of cultural excellence should be those of information, documentation and management. Each citizen should have access to information, to know what cultural events are there for the elderly or for the youth”, said the MP. Ghenadie Ciobanu said that the idea was discussed with foreign partners, who liked it. “Even if we renovate the center, the walls and the roof matter less than the mentality. We must be aware of this. We used to the idea that we shouldn’t do anything until we have a house. We’ll never be supported if we don’t change. To have cultural events, we must stimulate the need for cultural products. Culture doesn’t wait, we must work”, he said. There are over 1200 culture halls in Moldova.
