Culture Day has a profound symbolical connotation for identity of Romanians, ambassador

The Ambassador of Romania in the Republic of Moldova Daniel Ioniță said the Culture Day has a profound symbolical connotation for the culture and identity of Romanians. He noted it is not at all accidental that this day is celebrated simultaneously in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova, together with the birthday of the national poet Mihai Eminescu, IPN reports.

“This year we celebrate the National Culture Day in a separate, difficult context generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which deeply affects the state of public healthy, the economy and politics in the world. I’m yet glad that this pandemic didn’t impact the affection and love between Romanians, no matter where they live. This affection is cemented by those unseen threads of our national fiber that transcend the time and the temporary political interests and are based on common culture, language and history,” Daniel Ioniță noted in a message transmitted on the occasion of the National Culture Day.

The ambassador said that today it is only one of the anniversary moments when those who created masterpieces and left imprints in the universe are remembered. “Mihai Eminescu, George Enescu, Nicolae Grigorescu, Emil Cioran, Grigore Vieru, Nichita Stănescu, Mircea Eliade, Constantin Brâncuși – and we probably are not right when we mention only some of them – strengthened the pillars of our national culture as an important part of the valuable universal heritage,” stated the diplomat.

Daniel Ioniță said the day of January 15 represents an important moment for celebrating the artistic creation and also for reflecting on the role and place of the Romanian values in the intangible European and universal cultural heritage and on the significance of the cultural projects of national interest and cultural diplomacy.  He expressed his confidence that the inclusion of the ”Chemise with ornamental stitching” into the UNESCO Intangible  Cultural Heritage Lists will be completed this year, which will complement the results achieved until now with the male group caroling, the Martsishor and the traditional carpet making techniques.

To mark the Culture Day, the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova invites those interested to see online the extraordinary concert of the Romanian Youth Orchestra at the Romanian Athenaeum, under the direction of conductor Cristian Mandeal.
