The cultural-sports complex in Varnita village of Anenii Noi district was opened after renovation. The project was implemented with the assistance of the EU through the Support to Confidence Building Measures Program and was implemented by UNDP, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, attending the inauguration, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the executive will continue to be open to all the initiatives that bring the people from both sides of the Nistru River closer. “This project through which the multifunctional community center, the sports ground of the Theoretical Lyceum and the pavilion of the kindergarten were renovated was designed to first of all offer comfort to the direct beneficiaries, children and their parents,” stated the Premier, noting the role of such projects in the Transnistrian settlement process.
EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said the inauguration of the sports grounds during the European Football Championship is symbolic and full of inspiration. “Watching sports tournaments or practicing sport, we share values of friendship, respect and mutual understanding” stated the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova.
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva said the ensuring of efficient communication, based on positive reciprocal practice, is one of the fundamental conditions for successfully promoting confidence between communities from both sides of the Nistru. According to her, Varnita is a model in this respect.
The budget of the project is over €150,000. Local communities also contributed to the project.
